Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge Trek – 15 Days

Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will receive a warm welcome from our representative. They will assist you with the check-in process at the hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure, allowing you to immerse yourself in the rich history and lively atmosphere of this captivating city.

Catch an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, where your adventure begins. Start trekking towards Phakding, descending through picturesque farmlands and charming Sherpa villages like Chheplung, Ghat, Sano, and Thulo Gumela.

Along the way, you'll encounter sacred sites such as Drangdrak Gompa and Pema Choling Gompa, offering serene moments for reflection. Don't forget to take in the breathtaking views of the majestic Kumbla mountain and its sister peaks, like Kusum Kanguru, that grace the horizon.

Our journey continues towards Namche Bazaar, as we pass through the charming hamlets of Zamphute and Tok Tok, offering captivating views of the sun-kissed Thamserku peak.

En route, we traverse Sherpa Villages like Benkar, Chumoa, and Monjo, eventually arriving at Utche Choling Gompa, located on a bluff at the entrance of the revered Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a steady climb, we cross the impressive high bridge over the Dudhkoshi River gorge, where it meets its tributary, the Bhotekoshi.

Finally, as we ascend slowly, the majestic Namche Bazaar comes into sight, providing our first glimpse of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. After a short distance of about 1.5km/0.9 miles, we reach our destination, Namche Bazaar.

During our acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, we have the opportunity to aid our bodies in adjusting to the high altitude. We can take leisurely walks or climb a few hundred feet, exploring the picturesque villages, terraced fields, and snowy mountain vistas of Kwangde, Khumbu peak, Thamserku, Kusum Kanguru, and more.

One of the highlights is the Saturday market, where we can immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere, interact with locals dressed in traditional attire, and marvel at the bustling crowds. Starting the day with a climb from the Gompa, we pass by stunning peaks like Kwangde, Khumbila, Thamserku, Tagi Tau, Pharchamo, Ama Dablam, and Taboche. Along the way, we reach a viewpoint at "THE EVEREST VIEW HOTEL," where we can relish lunch while admiring the breathtaking panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar (East) peak, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and Taboche.

Continuing our journey, we descend to Khumjung, renowned for its gompa nestled in a cedar grove. Inside the gompa, there is a revered image of Guru Padmasambhava, while the preserved yeti skull, once believed to be authentic, has been debunked by scientists in the US. After a fulfilling day, we return to Namche Bazaar for a restful night's stay.

Leaving Namche, we follow a gentle trail that winds around the ridge, leading us to a viewpoint perched on a bluff. From this vantage point, we are rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of majestic peaks, including Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Everest. Continuing our journey, we reach Kyangjuma (3550m) and proceed towards Sanasa (3600m), an important trail junction.

Descending gradually, we pass through Lawichasa, where the iconic peak of Ama Dablam captivates our gaze. The trail then descends further, guiding us down steep stone steps to Phunki Thenga (3250m) and across a bridge. As we ascend, we are surrounded by a dense forest of towering rhododendron trees, offering glimpses of wildlife such as musk deer and Himalayan tahr. Eventually, we reach a Kani (a traditional gateway) and a pair of chortens, marking our arrival at the scenic village of Tengboche.

Nestled on a grassy saddle beneath a crescent-shaped ridge adorned with scrub pines and rhododendrons, Tengboche is renowned for its iconic Tengboche monastery, a spiritual centerpiece of the region.

Leaving Tengboche, we continue along the trail that meanders through a dense forest of conifers and rhododendrons. As we make our way, we keep a lookout for the vibrant monal pheasants and graceful musk deer.

Our path leads us to the charming village of Debuche, where we visit the Debuche Gompa adorned with ancient thangkas and murals on wooden panels. On the east hillside of Debuche, we also discover a small Buddhist nunnery.

Continuing through the lush forest, we pass Milinggo and descend steeply to cross a suspension bridge over the Imja Khola. As we ascend the opposite hillside, we encounter a white stupa with vigilant Buddhist eyes and a magnificent stupa atop an exposed bluff, reflecting the towering presence of Ama Dablam at the end of the valley.

Here, we find the footprint of Khumbu's esteemed patron saint, Lama Sange Dorje. Further along, we reach Pangboche village, home to the oldest monastery in Khumbu, the Pangboche Gompa, founded by Lama Sange Dorje. Following the course of the Imja Khola, the trail ascends towards the village of Shomare. Beyond the treeline, we traverse a rolling and arid alpine terrain adorned with patches of scrub, scattered pastures, and fields where yaks graze peacefully. Passing through the yak pastures and stone huts of Orsho and Tsuro Wog, we turn right and descend until we reach a point near the confluence of the Imja Khola and Khumbu Khola.

Finally, climbing a low ridge, we arrive at the sprawling settlement of Dingboche. Known for its cold and windy climate, Dingboche experiences sub-zero temperatures even during the summer nights.

There are several interesting day hikes in this area, one of which is the 400m climb to Nangkartsang Gompa on the ridge north of Dingboche. From this vintage point, there are good views of three of the world’s six highest peaks – Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

From here we continue to the Nangkartsang summit for the close-up views of the mountains again and then return downhill to Dingboche for the night stay.

As we continue on this magnificent trail, we find ourselves surrounded by the awe-inspiring Himalayas, with majestic mountains embracing us from all directions. Departing from Dingboche, we embark on a gradual ascent along the ridge, passing through the picturesque village of Dusa (4503m).

Here, we are treated to breathtaking vistas of the twin peaks of Taboche and Cholatse, while Ama Dablam stands proudly as a perfect pyramid. Further on, the summit of Kantega comes into view, positioned to the left of the prominent saddle that captivated our gaze back in Tengboche.

Descending to a glacial stream, we make our way up the opposite side, eventually reaching the enchanting village of Dughla.

Leaving Dughla behind, the trail leads us directly up the rocky terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. As we reach the top of the ridge, the path veers left, guiding us to Chupki Lhara. Here, we encounter solemn heaps of stones adorned with prayer flags, serving as poignant memorials to the mountaineers who tragically lost their lives in their quest to conquer Mount Everest.

Continuing onward, we catch glimpses of the serene Chola Lake, its azure waters sparkling from the elevated trails. Descending from Chupki Lhara, we traverse the Khumbu Glacier moraine, revealing a majestic sight of three towering peaks—Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Pumori—standing boldly before us.

Following the gentle murmur of a nearby stream, we take our final steps, eventually arriving at the enchanting village of Lobuche.

This will be a challenging and demanding day for us, as we trek across a grassy terrain, passing scattered boulders, with the towering snowy mountains always in view. A 60-meter ascent brings us to the top of the lateral moraine wall of the Changri glacier, reaching a level spot known as Thangma Riju.

Here, we are rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains, including Taboche, Lobuche, Pumori, Mahalangur Himal peaks, Changtse in Tibet, and the imposing Nuptse dominating the eastern horizon.

Continuing our journey, we traverse the Changri glacier's moraine, where it merges with the Khumbu glacier from the west. Climbing steeply up a stony slope, we finally arrive at Gorak Shep, catching our first glimpse of Kala Patthar.

From Gorak Shep, our path leads us towards Everest Base Camp, immersing us in the midst of the mountains rather than observing them from a distance, as EBC is not merely a viewpoint. Walking alongside the tranquil blue waters of Gorak Shep Lake, we witness the majestic Changtse peak in Tibet and the Lho La depression directly ahead.

Crossing several glaciers, icefalls, frozen pools, and imposing icy walls, navigating through large boulders, we ultimately reach Everest Base Camp, marking the end of our trekking journey and the beginning of the mountaineering realm.

We descend back to Gorak Shep for our overnight stay.

This marks the pinnacle of our trek, our long-awaited encounter with Everest. We set off after an early breakfast, savoring the anticipation of the day ahead. Crossing the wide expanse of the dried-up lake bed and navigating steep zigzag paths, we ascend approximately 100 meters, treating ourselves to breathtaking views of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse.

As our climb continues, we are greeted with a majestic sight of the Khumbu glacier and the imposing Nuptse massif. Finally, we reach the rocky vantage point of Kala Patthar. The ascent is slow and challenging, but with each meter gained, our reward is an even more awe-inspiring glimpse of Everest.

Eventually, we find ourselves perched upon the rocks of Kala Patthar, surrounded by an unimaginable panorama of the Himalayas. After taking in the magnificent views, we begin our descent, which is significantly quicker.

Following our footsteps back, we pass through Gorak Shep and Lobuche, and from Dughla, instead of heading towards Dingboche, we make our way down to Pheriche, tracing the path along the Khumbu Khola. We settle in for the night, reflecting on our incredible journey thus far.

Leaving Pheriche behind, we embark on a downward journey, following the trail that leads us to Tsuro Wog.

Crossing the bridge over Khumbu Khola, we are treated to magnificent mountain vistas along the way. From Tsuro Wog, we retrace our steps, descending through Orsho, Shomare, and upper Pangboche, until we arrive at the enchanting destination of Tengboche.

With its grandeur, Tengboche monastery stands as the largest gompa in the Khumbu region. Continuing our descent from Tengboche, we make our way to Phunki Tenga, where we further descend to Sanasa and Kyangjuma, and ultimately reach the vibrant town of Namche Bazaar.

Our final day’s trekking follows the Dudh Kosi down to Lukla retracing the way we came up.

Flyback from Lukla to Kathmandu and drop at the hotel. This is a leisure day which can be utilized by buying gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family. In the evening you will be invited to join FAREWELL reviewing great photos and share experiences of the trip.
