Mera Peak Aggressive Climbing – 18 Days

Welcome to the lively city of Kathmandu, teeming with vibrant markets, bustling streets, and captivating temples. Upon your arrival, a representative from Everest Dreams will greet you at the airport and accompany you to our comfortable accommodation. After a short rest, you'll have the option to explore the city at your leisure or partake in a guided city tour, depending on your arrival time.

Later in the evening, your experienced climbing guide will provide a comprehensive briefing about the upcoming trek. Join your team for a delightful dinner program, fostering camaraderie and anticipation for the adventure ahead.

Today will be a day of rest and unpacking. In the afternoon, we will visit our office where our climbing leaders will inspect our climbing equipment to ensure it is in optimal condition for the upcoming journey. We will also have the opportunity to meet our fellow participants and engage in discussions about the trip. We will spend the night in Kathmandu.

We will start our day with an early morning flight to Lukla and begin our trek to Paiya. After landing at the renowned Tenzing-Hillary airport, we will embark on a scenic journey along a jungle trail, crossing the Handi Khola bridge and arriving at Surke Village.

Continuing our trek towards the south, we will cross the Chutok La pass and eventually reach the charming settlement of Paiyan, also referred to as Chutok. We will spend the night in Paiya, enjoying the serene surroundings.

Descend for a while and reach a small bridge. From here the trail is slippery until we cross the Kari La pass. We walk through rhododendron and bamboo forests on a narrow mountain trail. On today’s trip, we also get to be in awe of the Dudhkoshi Valley. Continue our trek to Panggom Village whose settlers are dependent on farming and trading. Overnight in Panggom.

Following breakfast, we will begin our trek from Panggom. Our route will lead us to cross the Panggom La pass, after which we will ascend and continue on a steady path towards the north.

Along the way, we will cross the Peseng Kharka Khola and eventually reach the Peeng Kharka Danda. Continuing our journey, we will cross the Ningsow Khola before arriving at the picturesque Ningsow Village. We will spend the night in Ningsow, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the area.

Starting from Ningsow, our trek involves a combination of climbing and descending, leading us to the breathtaking viewpoint of Ramailo Danda.

This vantage point offers extraordinary views of Mera Peak and Salpa. Continuing on our journey, we will encounter ascents and descents before entering the awe-inspiring Makalu Barun National Park.

This section of the trail, known as the Pasang Lhamu trail, presents an opportunity to spot the elusive Red Panda if luck is on our side. We will spend the night in Chhatra Khola, immersed in the natural beauty of our surroundings.

We will commence our journey by heading north on the main trail towards Mera Peak.

Following a trail alongside the Majang Khola, we will eventually merge with another trail that runs parallel to the Hinku Khola. Continuing on this path, we will make our way towards Tashing Ongma, where seasonal tea shops can be found.

Our trek persists as we cross the bridge over the Sanu Khola and ultimately arrive at the destination of Kothe. We will spend the night in Kothe, preparing for the adventures that lie ahead.

Our trek continues along the ridge of the Hinku Khola, offering breathtaking views of Mera Peak. During our journey, we will stop for lunch at Gondishung, a summer herders' settlement located on the west bank of the Hinku Drangka. Beyond Gondishung, we will encounter a significant cultural site, the Lungsumgba Gompa, which is over 200 years old.

Here, we can find inscriptions of Mera Peak along with its climbing route carved into the rock. A short walk from there will lead us to Thaknak, a summer grazing area adorned with basic lodges and shops. We will spend the night in Thaknak, surrounded by the serene beauty of the area.

Leaving Thaknak, we follow the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Kharka, which offers spectacular views of Charpate Himal.

The trail climbs through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers and then climbs more steeply to Khare. From here, we can see the northern face of Mera Peak which will be an amazing experience. After lunch, we can hike in and around Khare. Overnight at Khare.

To ensure proper acclimatization and enhance our preparedness for the Mera Peak climb, we have allocated a dedicated day for basic training.

Led by our experienced climbing leader, we will receive guidance on refining our fundamental climbing techniques and become proficient in the proper utilization of climbing equipment such as ice axes, harnesses, ascenders, climbing boots, and crampons.

The training will also encompass learning the optimal climbing techniques with ropes. We will spend the night in Khare, ready to embark on our Mera Peak adventure.

We navigate through a challenging terrain strewn with boulders, following a steep trail that leads us to the Mera Peak Base Camp. Continuing our ascent, we traverse the Mera La pass, braving the rocky path that can be treacherous after recent snowfall due to crevasses.

Our perseverance brings us to the summit of the rock band, marked by a prominent cairn. Here, we establish our high camp, reveling in the magnificent vistas of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang, and Baruntse. We will spend the night at Mera High Camp, preparing for the exhilarating climb ahead.

Today marks a pivotal day for our expedition. We awaken around 2 am and brace ourselves for the cold as we indulge in a nourishing breakfast.

As we ascend the glacier and traverse a distinctive ridge, the first rays of the sun illuminate the towering peaks in a mesmerizing red glow. The route remains non-technical, gradually leading us higher into the thinning air. The slope becomes steeper behind the ridge, revealing the summit once again.

Depending on the climbing leader's assessment, we may utilize a fixed rope for the final steep summit cone. The summit itself is just a few meters away. From this vantage point, we are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the majestic Himalayas, including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Cho-Oyu (8,210m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Kangchenjunga (8,586m), Nuptse (7,855m), Chamlang (7,319m), Baruntse (7,129m), and many others.

After relishing this extraordinary panorama, we retrace our steps back to the high camp, take a moment to rest, and then descend to Khare. We will spend the night in Khare, reflecting on the accomplishment of reaching the summit.

As we embark on our journey, it's important to acknowledge that weather conditions can be unpredictable, especially on our planned day for the summit. Therefore, we have allocated this day as a contingency in case unfavorable weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent us from reaching the summit of Mera Peak.

However, if our expedition progresses smoothly and as planned, we may not need to utilize this contingency day. Nevertheless, we will be prepared and adaptable to ensure the best possible outcome for our adventure.

Start trek from Khare to Kothe along the same trail used previously. After reaching Kothe, we celebrate our success by trying out local delicacies and wines. Overnight in Kothe.

Start trek to Thuli Kharka after breakfast. We climb up and descend, cross several tributaries of the Inkhu Khola before reaching a forked trail nearby Taktho. We choose the trail on our right and continue walking.

This trail passes by a Chorten after which we walk downhill on a steep trail. Next ascend to Thuli Kharka and pass by another Chorten on the way. Overnight in Thuli Kharka.

Our day begins with the crossing of the scenic Zatrwa-La pass, situated at an altitude of 4,600 meters. As we make our way over the pass, we are greeted by the breathtaking panorama of the picturesque Lukla Valley, adorned with magnificent peaks such as Cho Oyu, Kongde Peak, Numbur Himal, and Kusum Khangru.

Descending from the pass, we proceed to Chutang and continue our journey onward to the vibrant village of Lukla. In the evening, we indulge in a delightful dinner in the Himalayan ambiance, accompanied by our dedicated crew. We will spend the night in Lukla, relishing the memories of our incredible trek.

In the early morning, we will board a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla. Upon arrival, you will have the option to relax and unwind or engage in souvenir shopping. If you are interested in exploring other areas of Kathmandu, we can arrange for sightseeing activities.

Our knowledgeable guides will be available to assist you with both shopping and sightseeing. In the evening, we will gather for a special farewell dinner to celebrate your successful summit of Mera Peak. We will spend the night in Kathmandu, cherishing the memories of our remarkable adventure.

Today marks the conclusion of our thrilling adventure in Nepal. As we bid farewell to this remarkable country, we have the opportunity to exchange emails with our fellow travel companions and organize our cherished photos.

A representative will accompany us to the airport, ensuring a smooth departure approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight. During our journey back home, we will have ample time to reflect and plan our next exciting adventure in the captivating land of Nepal.
